It is a chronic headache (migraine synonymous), very intense and sharp which is usually localized to the eye, around it or in the temple. It starts suddenly and is sometimes preceded or accompanied by visual symptoms, neurological and gastrointestinal.

Causes

- Genetic or hereditary factors may favor the emergence of the disease.
- Excess or lack of sleep.
- Changes in atmospheric pressure.
- Excessive exposure to sunlight or fluorescent light.
- Environmental pollution. – Stress.
- Strong smells.
- Reduction in sugar levels.
- Consumption of some dairy products, such as American cheese or yellow as well as wine, salami, champagne, chocolate, condiments, sweeteners, coffee, tea and cola.

Symptoms

- Its main manifestation is severe headache.
- A migraine is usually accompanied by nausea.
- Vomiting.
- Sensitivity to light, noise and smells.
- Can produce blinding lights and flashing (appearing and disappearing).
- Lack of concentration and memory impairment.
- Some individuals experience signs that a migraine will be presented soon: visualize a kind of bright light rain, feel nausea and cold sweat.
- In some cases no agitation, euphoria and anxiety by eating certain foods, especially sweets.
- Unexplained depression, malaise and lack of energy.
- Tingling or weakness in an arm or leg.

Diagnosis

Not available in any laboratory test that is useful for diagnosing this disease, but due to its specific characteristics, it is often easy to identify.

Prevention

- Avoid excessive consumption of red wine, or yellow American cheese, sausages, champagne, chocolate, condiments, sweeteners, coffee, tea and cola.
- Sleep at least six hours daily.
- No exposure to excessive light, strong smells, or contaminants.
- Avoid stress.

Treatment

There are counter pain relievers to help reduce migraines, but usually requires more aggressive treatment, which only a doctor can prescribe.

It is believed that the decrease of female hormones (estrogen) during the menstrual period may be related to the disease. To alleviate this imbalance, we recommend the use of food supplements containing vitamin B6,
which is naturally found in cereals, vegetables and fruits such as bananas.
