<p>According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 20 percent of Hispanic children between 12 and 19 are obese. In contrast 18 percent of all children between 12 and 19 are obese.</p>
<p>&#8220;We could say that is the main problem of our community,&#8221; said Dr. Philip Lobel, a nutrition specialist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a federal government agency that promotes good health.</p>
<p>&#8220;We unfortunately the U.S. group with the highest rates of obesity in adults and children and we must do something about it,&#8221; he said. (Download the full interview in. Mp3 (5MB) or read the transcript of the interview.)</p>
<p>That something could be summarized in the following five habits that Dr. Lobelo recommends that parents or guardians who seek to combat childhood obesity at home:<span id="more-614"></span></p>
<p>1) Add more fruits and vegetables</p>
<p>Dr. Lobelo says that consumption of fruits and vegetables is vital to combat childhood obesity. States that parents can add fruit to <strong><a href="http://www.dynastycourtesans.com/">the diet of children</a></strong> replacing sweets and fats when eating a sandwich. To increase vegetable consumption suggests that parents prepare and season the vegetables they love their children and to help them reduce consumption of foods high in fat and calories. &#8220;The important thing is to increase the likelihood that children eat fruit and vegetables and healthy snacks, because we do not have many opportunities to do so during the day.&#8221;</p>
<p>2) Spend less time in front of a screen</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.dynastycourtesans.com/">Obesity</a></strong> is difficult to combat successfully without changing sedentary habits like watching too much television, playing video games or spend hours at the computer. &#8220;All these are now settled that contribute to the development of obesity,&#8221; said Dr. Lobel. Ideally, he says, is limited to two hours per day the time children spend in front of a screen. In this way children will have more time to follow the next tip: put your bodies in motion.</p>
<p>3) Increase physical activity</p>
<p>Dr. Lobelo said that if the exercise could be compressed into a tablet would be a miracle drug that would reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers. Therefore, recommends that children get at least an hour a day of physical activity. &#8220;This is not to train for a specific sport or exercise is rigorous daily. It is for children to play in open spaces, they spend less time locked up at home, take a walk and have a lifestyle that is not sedentary, &#8220;he said.</p>
<p>4) Eliminate sugary drinks</p>
<p>In recent years there has been an explosion in consumption of sugary drinks like sodas, juices and energy drinks and even families are often unaware of how much sugar these drinks contain. &#8220;The sodas are high in calories have no nutritional component and do not contribute to a healthy diet,&#8221; said Dr. Lobel. &#8220;So the recommendation is to avoid the greatest,&#8221; he said. Ideally, parents encourage the consumption of water in the home and teach children healthy habits.</p>
<p>5) Give an example for children</p>
<p>Good health habits are possible if parents give sufficient importance in the home, said Dr. Lobel. &#8220;This is not the parent tell the child to have healthy habits but he did not have,&#8221; he said. The CDC offers tips to parents to balance exercise with good nutrition. &#8220;The whole family has to have a healthy lifestyle, take a walk together, try to reduce the number of hours of television and try to avoid sugary drinks,&#8221; he said.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The results of a study by a team of doctors from the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, Massachusetts, published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggest that eating 2 or more servings of fish per week would increase slightly the risk of diabetes.</p>
<p>Diet is a key factor in preventing <strong><a href="http://www.dynastycourtesans.com/">the onset of diabetes</a></strong> in adults, but it is unknown how the consumption of omega-3 fatty acids <strong><a href="http://www.dynastycourtesans.com/">increases the risk of developing the disease</a></strong>, explains to Dr. Frank B. Hu.<span id="more-612"></span></p>
<p>The team analyzed <strong><a href="http://www.dynastycourtesans.com/">the relationship between fish consumption and omega-3</a></strong> and the onset of diabetes in 152,700 women participating in the Nurses&#8217; Health Study and 42,504 men participating in the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study. A total of 9380 health professionals developed diabetes at 18 years of study.</p>
<p>After controlling for lifestyle and other factors associated with food, more body weight, family history of diabetes, as well as menopause and hormone use, whether it was applicable, the team found an increased risk of developing diabetes &#8220;in all cohorts&#8221; who consumed the highest levels of omega-3 fatty acids.</p>
<p>Diabetes was 1.17 times more common in people who ate fish 2 to 4 times a week, and 1.22 times higher in those who did 5 or more times per week, compared with those who ate the least amount of fish .</p>
<p>The authors noted that many studies so far have shown the benefits of fish and omega-3 fatty acids on several risk factors associated with diabetes and heart disease, which is the main consequence of diabetes.</p>
<p>Experts say more research is needed to explain the &#8220;clinical significance&#8221; of the results and determine the mechanisms behind the observation that high consumption of fish increases the risk of developing the disease.</p>

<p>Olive oil has components that protect the blood vessels of the eyes and reduce the risk of vision loss, especially after age 50, experts added.</p>
<p>The results of two studies were published in the Archives of Ophthalmology &#8220;in May.</p>
<p>The study by researchers at the University of Sydney and the Centre for Eye Research in Australia, followed the track to 9.234 adults who had a Mediterranean diet rich in Omega 3 (found in fish, nuts and oil olive oil) and found that they were less likely to develop problems with the retina. We also know that these eye problems are directly associated with nutrition.<span id="more-609"></span></p>
<p>How much olive oil should be consumed?</p>
<p>According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the ideal is to take 2 tablespoons (23 grams) of olive oil daily. One important thing to note is that despite all olive oils contain monounsaturated fat, those classified as &#8220;virgin&#8221; and &#8220;extra virgin&#8221; are most beneficial for heart health and eye, as they are the least processed and contain the highest levels of polyphenols, an antioxidant that is essential for health.</p>
